Description
This is a 12-month programme, similar to a block of the month, but rather than a block each month, participants will complete full or partial borders each month, surrounding a Feathered Star center block (or alternative block if you choose).
The pattern is Stars for a New Day by Come Quilt. The finished Quilt measures approximately 90" x 90"
This project is for quilters of ALL levels - The quilt can provide a challenge to advanced quilters with many pieces (and fabrics !). There are opportunities to introduce alternative, simpler borders to accomodate sewers at the beginner and intermediate level. Some of the blocks use paper piecing technique which will be demonstrated for those unfamiliar with the process.
Because of the many small pieces, the quilt takes quite a bit of fabric- approximately 22 metres. It works best as a scrappy quilt, which means that you don’t need to have all your fabric at once and you can leverage fabrcis you may have in your stash. You can collect fabric over the course of the 12 months.
The store sample quilt, in blue and white, is considered “controlled scrappy”- it is limited to two colours, but many different blue fabrics were used.
Once you have selected your background and three main fabrics, you can use fat quarters, jelly rolls, 10” squares, or many other pre-cuts, as well as yardage to complete the project.
Each month participants will receive the pattern, along with the instructors notes to assist you with the month’s sewing.
There are three ways to participate:
1. Pick up your pattern and notes each month and work at home independently. This is for the experienced, confident quilter.
NOTE: If you don't live close to one of our stores, you can still participate in this program. We will mail the pattern and notes to you each month.
2. Attend a 1 hour presentation each month when you pick up your pattern, notes and receive in-person tips. The Instructor will demonstrate the methods utilized that month. She will also share alternative ideas with the group. Perfect for the Intermediate quilter.
3. Attend a 3 hour class where you can start working on the month's border with the support of an Instructor. This is especially useful for the less confident/beginner quilter.
